Fanatics dropped a key update in its lawsuit against Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. Included now in the company’s lawsuit is the rookie’s father due to his involvement in fraudulent activities.
A few months ago, Fanatics filed a lawsuit against Harrison in the New York Supreme Court. The lawsuit alleges that the rookie has breached a contract he signed with Fanatics in May 2023, which included provisions for autographs, signed trading cards, game-worn apparel, and other marketing opportunities.
Fanatics Identifies Arizona Cardinals Wide Receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.’s Father In Refiled Lawsuit Against NFL Rookie
Just recently, Fanatics revised their lawsuit against Harrison. This time, though, they’re including his father, as seen in an article written by Josh Weinfuss for ESPN.
“Fanatics refiled its lawsuit against Arizona Cardinals rookie wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. late last week, expanding it to include fraud allegations against his father, Marvin Harrison Sr.
In the revised suit, which was filed Friday in the New York State Supreme Court, Fanatics named Pro Football Hall of Famer Harrison Sr. as a party in the suit, and it alleges he “aided and abetted Harrison Jr.’s fraud on Fanatics.”
The impetus for Fanatics’ suit against Harrison Jr., which was filed May 18, is an alleged breach of contract by Harrison Jr,” Weinfuss wrote.
The revised suit includes new details, such as Fanatics’ claim that the signature on the binding term sheet “bears a striking resemblance” to Harrison Jr.’s signature on other documents. Fanatics also alleges that Harrison Jr., Harrison Sr., and The Official Harrison Collection executed the Binding Term Sheet to further their own self-interest and to obtain negotiating leverage with other licensees in order to gain even larger profits.
Despite the revised counts, the core of the dispute remains the same: Fanatics believed it had a binding agreement with Harrison Jr., while the player maintains that the agreement was between his company and Fanatics, not between himself and the company. As the NFL preseason continues, this legal battle is poised to have significant implications for the league’s licensing and sponsorship landscape.
