The Arizona Cardinals are one of several teams looking for redemption in 2024. More importantly, they want to make sure that QB Kyler Murray is still the guy they can turn to at that position for the long haul. Unfortunately, a statement from the team made earlier today revealed that we will have to wait a little longer to see Kyler Murray.
Kyler Murray Not Expected to Play in Preseason
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon revealed that QB Kyler Murray is not going to play in the preseason. This means that we will likely have to wait until Week 1 of the regular season to get another glimpse of Kyler Murray. In the meantime, we will likely see Desmond Ridder and Clayton Tune at the quarterback position in preseason games.
2024 Redemption for Kyler Murray?
Kyler Murray arguably secured his position as the starting quarterback of the Arizona Cardinals moving forward last season. At the end of the 2022 season, Murray suffered a brutal ACL injury. This injury supposedly kept Murray out for the first half of the 2023 season. Things got so bad for Murray and the Cardinals that they were rumored to be tanking for QB Caleb Williams in the 2024 NFL Draft.
In the end, Murray did come back about halfway through the 2023 season. Despite his limited time on the field, he did leave his mark on the Cardinals last season. Murray had nearly 1,800 passing yards and 10 touchdown passes in eight games. Now, he has a chance to greatly improve upon these numbers with a potential full season under his belt in 2024.
Arizona Cardinals Moving Forward
So, what should the Cardinals expect moving forward? For starters, this is going to be Murray’s second chance to be the Cardinals’ franchise quarterback. He was drafted in 2019, and this is his sixth season with the team.
This will also be the first full season Kyler Murray gets to work with head coach Jonathan Gannon. He took over for Kliff Kingsbury following the 2022 season.
On top of this, the Arizona Cardinals just drafted a wide receiver with very high expectations. That wide receiver is Marvin Harrison Jr. He was a star at Ohio State and the son of Marvin Harrison Sr., who is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
