Arizona Cardinals free agent acquisition and starting right tackle Jonah Williams suffered a knee injury during the first quarter of their Week 1 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Williams missed the remainder of the season opener, and the Cardinals placed him on injured reserve ahead of Week 2. Since then, he missed nine games.

The Arizona Cardinals opened RT’s practice window three weeks ago
The Cardinals designated Jonah Williams for return from injured reserve on October 30, effectively opening his practice window. Williams participated during Week 9’s practice as a limited participant, but the Cardinals ruled him out. Once again, he participated in Week 10’s practice as a limited participant, and the team listed him as questionable but later downgraded him to out.
They had to make up their mind since today is the last day for them to activate their $30 million RT before he reverts to season-ending injured reserve.
He returns to the active roster
On X, the Arizona Cardinals announced they activated Jonah Williams off injured reserve and to the active roster just in time. Instead of reverting to season-ending injured reserve, Williams will regain his spot on the active roster since the Cardinals released Charlie Heck.

Will he play this week?
During Wednesday’s press conference, Jonathan Gannon didn’t commit to naming Jonah Williams the starting right tackle for Week 12’s contest against the Seattle Seahawks. Gannon said they would weigh all of the variables and take it day by day.
“We kind of weigh all the variables and then decide what we think is best for the team for that game. We’ll take it day by day but the good thing is I think a lot of different guys have played a lot of different spots and they’ve played with each other quite a bit,” Gannon said. “We just got to make sure the communication’s on point, the operation’s on point and we keep playing at a high level. The offensive line is playing extremely well.”
Who replaced him in the starting lineup?
35-year-old journeyman Kelvin Beachum took over for the injured right tackle, starting eight of the nine games. Beachum has done an incredible job in relief of Williams and hasn’t shown his age during the 2024 season. His performance has impressed their head coach, and he relies on his intelligence and leadership.
“Beach has played extremely well. He really has. He did that for us last year, too, but the veteran leadership — he’s a guy that could be a captain,” Gannon said.
“I use his brain a lot with different things. I ask him a lot of different things. He’s been all-in since we’ve been here. He’s been fantastic and he’s played extremely well. Very glad we have him.”
