The Arizona Cardinals can certainly use some of their players taking a big leap in the 2025 NFL season. The Cards have missed the boat to the NFL playoffs in each of the last three seasons.
They went from four wins in 2023 to eight wins in the 2024 season, which was a positive trend for them, but there’s still work to be done if they are to become a legitimate playoff contender, at least.
One player the Cardinals are hoping will take that next step is second-year running back Trey Benson, who didn’t do much behind James Conner in 2024. Selected in the third round (66th overall) of the 2024 NFL draft, the former Florida State Seminoles tailback believes he has what it takes to be on the same level as Conner, who’s rushed for a total of 2,134 yards and 15 touchdowns in the last two seasons.
“I feel like I’ll get more opportunities and help James out more,” Benson said (h/t The Arizona Republic’s Bob McManaman). “I feel like we can have two RB1’s on this team, and that’s my mindset this year is two RB1’s.”
Will Benson break out for the Arizona Cardinals in 2025?

Considering his mediocre production during his rookie season in the NFL, Benson is someone who’s not attracting much attention in the fantasy world, but that doesn’t mean he has zero potential to be a surprise in 2025.
Benson, who rushed for just 291 yards and a touchdown on 63 carries in 2024, has added some weight over the offseason, as he looks to get his body ready for the physicality on the field.
Conner should continue to get most of the touches in the backfield while Arizona dual-threat quarterback Kyler Murray can be expected to get a fair share of rushing attempts, but Benson can be a handcuff for Conner owners.
