College football is changing fast, and conferences as we knew them will never be the same. Everyone has been talking about the power five schools changing where they play. In the meantime, there’s been a lot more realignment news coming out the FCS. Today we learned of another D1 FCS School Jumping Conferences.
Conference Realignment
Monmouth and Stony Brook also decided to make the move to the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). Now we learn Campbell University, currently a member of the Big South Conference, has decided to depart for the CAA next July. Both North Carolina A&T and Hampton left the Big South Conference earlier this year to move to the CAA. NC A&T and Campbell both will be in Big South this year, where they are expected to contend for the conference championship.
Campbell’s move will increase the conference’s membership to 14 schools. Campbell has shown that they are a good team that can compete for playoffs spot regardless of conference. They are a powerful addition to the CAA Conference.
“The leadership team at Campbell University could not be more grateful to the Colonial Athletic Association for the invitation to join this outstanding athletic conference,” said Campbell President J. Bradley Creed. “Campbell’s athletic teams have demonstrated that we can compete with some of the best teams in the country. This move to the CAA aligns extremely well for Campbell in terms of the profile of sports and athletics, as well as the academic reputation of these highly regarded colleges and universities.”
The Big South
The Big South now finds itself with only four football programs after this season. They have made an agreement with Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) to work together. The agreement means an auto bid into the playoffs from them. Also the alignment of the two will help in recruiting compared to individual small conferences.
