According to head coach Andy Reid, there’s at least a chance that quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs could be getting one of the offense’s most explosive playmakers back this week.
While the Chiefs are heavy favorites over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday afternoon, running back Isaiah Pacheco could be on the cusp of returning.
“We’ll see,” Andy Reid told reporters, when asked about Pacheco’s chances of returning to the lineup this weekend.
Pacheco has been sidelined since suffering a fractured fibula in Kansas City’s Week 2 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, but has been an instrumental part of the Chiefs’ explosiveness on offense through his first two NFL seasons.
“He’s a spark plug, emotionally,” Reid told reporters. “He’s something that way, and he’s worked his tail off to get to the point that he’s at now. We’ve got to keep an eye on him that way. He would’ve played three weeks ago if he had his choice, but that’s sometimes how it goes. I appreciate that, though, that mentality. That’s what’s helped him get to this point.”
According to Reid, Pacheco is now in day-to-day mode, rather than worrying about him from week-to-week.
Through his first two-plus seasons, Pacheco has rushed for 1,900 yards and 13 touchdowns, and could give the Chiefs a significant boost in the backfield, once he’s fully healthy.
