Many people were wondering if the Cleveland Browns were going to draft a quarterback in the first-round of the 2025 NFL Draft or not. Cleveland decided to not draft a quarterback in the first round.

Instead, the Browns waited until the third-round to draft a quarterback and select Dillon Gabriel from the Oregon Ducks. Also, it was a major surprise when Shedeur Sanders from the Colorado Buffaloes was still on the board when they had the 144th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Browns selected Sanders with that pick and there was a lot of outrage that he slipped that far in the draft. He was projected to be one of the top quarterbacks taken in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Cleveland Browns Owner Jimmy Haslam Makes Stance Clear About Team Selecting Shedeur Sanders In 2025 NFL Draft

Browns owner Jimmy Haslam spoke to the media on Tuesday. He had some interesting things to say to the media. There were some people who speculated that it was his call to select Sanders instead of general manager Andrew Berry. Well, Haslam said to this media about the team selecting him in the fifth-round of the 2025 NFL Draft,
“If you would’ve told me…y’all were gonna pick Shedeur, I would say, ‘That’s Not Happening.’…Andrew Berry Made the call to pick Shedeur.”
These are some interesting words from the team owner. Is he covering it up that he wanted Shedeur instead of Berry? Well, Berry and head coach Kevin Stefanski could very well be on the hot seat entering the 2025 season. Sanders has yet to take first-team reps during training camp.
It will be interesting to see when it will occur if it even does. Some Browns fans think that Sanders should be getting first-team reps now. However, with that being said, the bigger story here is that Haslam claims that “Berry made the pick” to draft Shedeur and not him. That may not go over with Browns fans really well.
