The Alabama Crimson Tide will have a quarterback competition before the 2025 season begins. No matter who wins the job, Alabama will have a true number one wide receiver entering the 2025 season.

Wide receiver Ryan Williams will be entering his sophomore season and was impressive as a freshman. Williams will be the number one wide receiver on the team, and he has a chance to be even better in 2025. Alabama missed the college football playoffs with a 9-3 record during the 2024 college football season. They will look to rely upon Williams and others to get back their next season.
CBS Sports Has Alabama Crimson Tide Wide Receiver Ryan Williams As Top Player On Team Entering the 2025 College Football Season

CBS sports writer Will Backus created his MVP list for each Top 25 football team for the 2025 college football season. He has the Crimson Tide as the 14th best team in the country before the start of the 2025 season. Backus has Williams as Alabama’s best player (MVP). This is not a surprise because he played well as a freshman and was 17 years old during the 2024 season.
Backus said,
“Like Ohio State, Alabama is embroiled in a quarterback competition this offseason and, like Ohio State, Alabama has a superstar young receiver that whoever emerges as the starter can lean on. Though Williams cooled off down the stretch in 2024, he still finished with an impressive 48 catches for 865 yards and eight touchdowns. Oh, and did you know he’s still just 18 years old. Did you? “
Williams will no doubt be one of the top wide receivers drafted in the 2027 NFL Draft class along with Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Jeremiah Smith. Williams could be a dark horse candidate in the Heisman Trophy race for the 2025 season. It may not matter who he will catch passes from next season.
He caught passes from Jalen Milroe in 2024. Williams has a chance to go over 1,000 yards receiving with Alabama for the next two seasons before he gets to the NFL also.
