You may or may not know this but I started an All Steelers fantasy team. I released this on my social media to test the waters. Most people loved it, respected it and understood the joke. There were however, a few trolls online who said it was stupid and pointless. Well, I did it anyways and as requested by many here is my overview of how the team performed this week.
Overview
My team in week one did not do so hot. This is due to a lack of offensive production in general. The team could not consistently move the ball and play makers did not put up the points I was expecting by any means. But hey this team is all about integrity and I am not jumping ship that easily as I expect the team to improve on the offensive side of the ball.
Offensive Players
Mitch Trubisky – Mitch Trubisky did not make a lot of costly mistakes but did not light it up either. His conservative play mixed with not seeing wide open guys down the field led to a bad fantasy outing of only 12.66 points.
Diontae Johnson – Johnson did not see the fantasy production he is accustomed to. This was large in part to due with Mitch having a lack luster game. He only amassed 9 fantasy points. But, as on of the top targeted receivers in the league last year and the offense continuing to find its way I expect much better production moving forward.
Chase Claypool – Claypool also a victim of inconsistent ball movement. He did deliver a lot of hope however. Seeing the way the team used him in multiple ways he is going to have great value going forward and will be a big part of the scheme. It’s up to the scheme and quarterback to produce for this to be worth anything. He ended with 7.4 points.
Najee Harris – Harris is still coming back from injury and also re-injured his left foot. It does not help that he was running into a brick wall the whole game and would eventually exit. Bad news for the Steelers and my fantasy team. He would go on to put up 9.6 points.
Jaylen Warren – They did not really use him in week one how I thought they would. Gadget plays and screens and spelling Najee on a few carries. He really didn’t see much action until Najee went down and he also ran into brick walls. He would end with 0.7 points. Yep….
George Pickens – Pickens was open… He was open multiple times and was either overshot or not even a thought in Trubsikys mind. You could clearly see his frustration and they need to make sure he is a focal point. He would end up with 0.8 points.
Pat Freiermuth – In the few chances he had Muth looked great. The team did not target the middle as much as I would of liked to see to really make him effective. Regardless though, he would end up with 10 points. Not too bad for a guy who was not as involved as he should have been.
Steelers Defense – The Defense was the brightest spot on the team. Mannnn they balled out. They forced 5 turnovers and sacked Burrow 7 times! They would chip in 26 points in a dominant outing.
Chris Boswell – Boswell would make 3 field goals and one of which was beyond 50 yards. He had a miss which was surprising but hey he still managed 14 points which is great for a kicker. No complaints over here.
Conclusion
At this moment all of my players obviously have played. My opponent has 147 points to my 90 and all his players have played. I definitely got destroyed while his team popped off. But let me just say this, to have a team play as stale as they did on offense its a miracle they put up 90. I had five guys score under 10 and also a couple under 1 full point. Just can’t expect as a realist for the Steelers to continue to put up 26 points on the defensive side but I can expect this offense to get better going forward. I am not saying I will win the championship but it will continue to get better and more interesting.
As always thanks for reading! You can always find great Steelers content here on Gridiron Heroics.
