Alabama Football: Fans Left Angry After Former First-Team Rusher Arrested for DUI – Week 6

Alabama football is 4-0 and the No. 1 team in the AP Top 25 Poll following an epic 41-34 win over the Georgia Bulldogs last weekend. After opening the season with doubt after the retirement of legendary head coach Nick Saban, the Alabama Crimson Tide have returned to similar territory, reaching the top spot in the AP Poll for the 16th time in 17 seasons. During that span, Alabama has housed some of the best collegiate talent ever, including four Heisman Trophy Winners and 41 All-Americans.

Among those top players is former superstar rusher Eddie Lacy, who played for the Crimson Tide from 2019 to 2012. Unfortunately for Lacy, the retired football player was in the news on Tuesday for all the wrong reasons. Alabama Crimson Tide fans, and football lovers in general, were furious when news broke of Lacy’s DUI arrest in the late hours of Monday night.

According to NFL aggregator Dov Kleiman:

𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴: Ex-NFL Star Eddie Lacy Arrested For ‘Extreme DUI’ In Arizona, per @TMZ

Lacy was arrested and booked on four separate DUI charges, including “Extreme DUI — BAC .20 or more.”

Lacy was also taken into custody on a charge of “liquor – possess open container in vehicle,” the spokesperson said.

Per the Scottsdale Police Department, former Alabama football star Eddie Lacy committed “several” traffic violations in the late hours of Monday night. A second-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, Lacy played for the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks for five seasons. After back-to-back 1,100-yard rushing seasons, Lacy quickly fell off, recording just 179 rushing yards in his final NFL campaign.

Before the NFL, Lacy became a superstar with the Alabama football team, helping lead the program to three BCS Championship titles from 2009 to 2012. Following his redshirt season, Lacy tallied 406 rushing yards and six touchdowns as a complimentary piece to Mark Ingram II and Trent Richardson. In 2011, the five-foot-elven, 250-pound downhill rusher posted 674 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. However, his All-SEC year came in 2012, with Lacy collecting 1,322 rushing yards and 19 total touchdowns while finishing with 7.1 rush yards per attempt. However, Lacy’s contributions on the field were quickly overshadowed in the minds of fans when news surfaced of his DUI arrest circa Monday night:
