“Out for Multiple Games”: Alabama Crimson Tide Star DT Set to Undergo Surgery

The Alabama Crimson Tide is three days away from its highly anticipated regular-season debut against an ACC foe. The eighth-ranked team in the nation faces off against the unranked Florida State Seminoles at Doak S. Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida, at 3:30 PM ET. Highlighting one of the biggest matchups to monitor throughout the game is the Seminoles’ revamped rushing attack vs. the Crimson Tide’s stout defensive front in the battle of the trenches.

Unfortunately for Alabama’s defensive line, a key contributor may not be 100% for this matchup.

Tim Keenan III exited Tuesday’s practice with an apparent ankle injury and did not return. He underwent tests and an evaluation to determine the severity of the injury. During Wednesday’s press conference, Kalen DeBoer provided a brief update on Keenan, stating that the Crimson Tide is still awaiting his diagnosis, and he doesn’t believe he will be available against Florida State, as reported by Hunter de Siver of Sports Illustrated.

“We’re getting a lot of it kind of figured out,” DeBoer said, via De Siver. “After practicing, honestly, gathered information. Did a little in the moment I’m in right now, just trying to understand exactly where it’s at.

“So our staff is unbelievable. They have done some pretty impressive things on getting guys back and so waiting for the update on that. I don’t know if I can even give you a percentage and be confident on that. We’ll see, but it is a lower-body injury.”

According to Brett McMurphy of On3, Tim Keenan III is expected to undergo tightrope surgery. As a result, the procedure is expected to sideline him for multiple weeks. There is hope that Keenan is available for the Crimson Tide’s Week 5 clash against the Georgia Bulldogs.

Who replaces him?

Jeremiah Beaman’s role will increase with Tim Keenan III sidelined. The four-star recruit from the 2024 recruiting class didn’t receive much playing time during his true freshman campaign and ultimately redshirted. Beaman recorded two tackles in three games and 30 defensive snaps in 2024.

Edric Hill is also expected to see his role increase. The former four-star recruit from the 2023 recruiting class played a minimal defensive role during his redshirt freshman campaign. Hill recorded three tackles across nine games and 58 defensive snaps in 2024.
