Alabama has been great at getting players to the NFL, and thanks to former head coach Nick Saban, many of them have been defensive backs.
Even though Saban was the head coach, he took his time coaching the defensive backs and made most of them players on Sundays.
Last year, the Crimson Tide had one of the best safeties in the country in true freshman Caleb Downs, but once Saban retired, he transferred to Ohio State since he was no longer getting coached by the best defensive backs coach of all time.
Just look up and down NFL rosters, and you will see a handful of Alabama defensive backs on there, and a former one just had a huge payday before the NFL season kickoffs.
Alabama’s Star Corner Gets A New NFL Deal

Surtain was selected ninth overall in the 2021 NFL Draft by Denver and was a major part of the 2020 Crimson Tide national title-winning team.
Since Surtain got to the NFL, he has been one of the best defenders in the league, and he was just paid like it, becoming the highest-paid defensive back in league history.
The 24-year-old corner has appeared in two Pro Bowls and was named to the 2022 All-Pro Team, missing only one game in his NFL career in 2021.
Surtain has been one of the bright spots of Denver’s bad defense, and hopefully, he can be one of the pieces to help turn it around this year. However, Alabama gets another high draft pick paid, and it just shows you how great of a program they have had getting players ready for the next level.
