The Florida Gators faced off against the Texas A&M Aggies in the swamp on 9/14/24. It was a lot of anticipation around the game such as who will the gators starting quarterback be. Also, the status of Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman who was dealing with a shoulder injury. UF started quarterback Graham Mertz for the game and a lot of fans were surprised. Even going as far as to chant for DJ Lagway to be put in the game. Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman did not start the game as he was dealing with an injury and was eventually ruled out which led the Aggies to start Marcel Reed.
Gators: The Gators started Graham Mertz which shocked some people given the hot start from DJ Lagway against Samford. Both quarterbacks saw playing time in the game, rotating in on different drives. Graham Mertz was 12/15 with 195 yards passing with 1 touchdown and an interception.DJ Lagway was 6/13 with 54 yards passing, 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions. Florida struggled offensively throughout the game, but their offensive production improved as the game went along. Some bright spots on the offense were wide receivers Elijah Badger and Chimere Dike who both had over 90 yards receiving and each scoring a touchdown.
Defensively Florida struggled giving up a total of 488 yards. The gators more so struggled against the run game giving up 310 yards.
Texas A&M started with the momentum as they went up 10-0 at the start of the game before a rain delay that lasted about 50 minutes was administered. The Aggies were hitting on all cylinders making plays on the offensive and defensive ends. Marcel reed was 11/17 with 178 yards passing and 2 touchdowns. But Texas A&M’s run game was the focal point of their offense. Their defense constantly made plays coming away with 3 interceptions.
Texas A&M won the game 33-20 increasing their record to 2-1 while Florida is 1-2 on the season.
