AFC Teams are high in new power rankings
The Kansas City Chiefs ended the season number one after their Super Bowl victory on Sunday. Thirty-one other NFL teams are hoping to catch up to them next season. (Patrick Mahomes doesn’t think they will.) Power rankings are already out for teams hoping to catch the Chiefs. One analyst’s list skews heavily toward AFC teams.
Bo Wulf with The Athletic recently came out with the post-Super Bowl power rankings for 2023. Wulf listed the Chiefs as the team to beat in 2023 as they placed them at the number one spot:
“In a league where nothing can stop great offense, the reigning Super Bowl champs have the best quarterback and probably the best offensive coach. It’s as simple as that.”
It would be hard to disagree with Wulf’s conclusion on the Chiefs, especially before we see what happens with free agency and the draft. Here, in order, are Wulf’s top five teams in the article:
- Kansas City Chiefs
- Cincinnati Bengals
- Philadelphia Eagles
- Buffalo Bills
- Jacksonville Jaguars
Notice a theme? Four of Wulf’s top five are AFC teams. The next NFC team on their list is the Detroit Lions at eight. (The final two teams in the top ten are NFC teams.) It’s safe to say many analysts are high on the AFC for 2023. And for a good reason, the AFC is loaded with talented quarterback play. The NFC is far behind in the most critical part of the modern NFL game.
