College football is back fans! We have been waiting a long seven months since Georgia dethroned Alabama in the CFP National Championship Game. What makes college football special are the Week 0 matchups!

For the ACC, two teams have Week 0 action and that is the North Carolina Tar Heels and Florida State Seminoles. Both are in the middle of the pack in the ACC and are looking to move forward from their disappointing 2021 seasons.

    Tar Heels Preview

    Tar Heels QB Drake Maye
Recently announced starting QB for the Tar Heels, Drake Maye, prepares for the 2022 season.

Drake Maye just beat out Jacolby Criswell for the starting signal caller job. Both saw limited action in 2021, so no one guy was head and shoulders the starter. WR Josh Downs (98-1,273-8) returns, so Maye at quarterback will have one of the premier wideouts in the nation camping for passes downfield. British Brooks led a spark in the backfield for the Tar Heels the final three games last season. But since season ending injury, it’ll be a committee of backs for the Heels.

Gene Chizik returns to Chapel Hill for a second go-around. He will be tasked with whipping a bad defense back into shape. The team in the transfer portal stocked up on stoppers up front to pair with DT Myles Murphy. The team’s top tackler, LB Cedric Gray, is also back, and he was one of a few bright spots on D last season. The secondary was shaky, and is the area of most concern again in 2022.

    Seminoles Preview

    FSU QB Jordan Travis
Jordan Travis has been the primary play-caller for the Seminoles the past two seasons. He and the Seminoles look to surprise the ACC this season.

QB Jordan Travis had a lot of ups and downs, but he showed signs of life. He will be the primary play-caller for the Noles and look to start the season off right. His legs may be a recipe for success after running for 530 yards and seven scores last year. WR Mycah Pittman transferred from Oregon and turned heads in spring practice, and the two built a nice rapport which will hopefully spill into the fall.

Defensive coordinator Adam Fuller did an excellent job last season improving his unit. DBs Omarion Cooper and Kevin Knowles really appeared as a solid young core players. The DL last season was a main reason for their success. This year is a little uncertain, but the strides the defense took last season should follow up this year. The defense should be scary this season returning 90% from last season ranking 2nd in the nation.

Week 0 Preview For Tar Heels And Seminoles

    Florida State vs. Duquesne odds
    • Point spread: Florida State -39.5
    • O/U: 56.5
    • Moneyline: FSU -10000, DUQ +1600
    • FPI pick: Florida State, 99.5%
North Carolina vs. Florida A&M odds
    • Point spread: North Carolina -34.5
    • O/U: 55.5
    • Moneyline: UNC -10000, FL A&M +1600
    • FPI pick: North Carolina, 99.5%

    Predictions: Under (Both)

Both the Tar Heels and Seminoles start the 2022 season with cupcakes and should not have any problem going 1-0. I like the under for each game for the fact that the opponents should not score AT ALL. But also, once a big lead is started in the first half, run the clock out the second half.
