The New York Jets won’t lose this weekend because they are on their bye. The Jets have done a lot of losing in their first 10 games, going 3-8 in a season they were expecting to make a playoff push.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers hasn’t looked like his four-time NFL MVP self since returning from the Achilles injury he suffered in 2023. Rodgers has gone 241-of-380 passing for 2,442 yards, 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Those stats aren’t enough for a team that fired their defensive coach after Week 5. Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich took a shot at Rodgers following the Jets’ devastating loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Week 11.
The New York Jets team is turning on Aaron Rodgers
Per Dianna Russini of The Athletic, some members of the Jets don’t think Rodgers is an elite quarterback, and the organization could bench the 40-year-old shortly.
“There are some on the team who believe everyone is simply tiptoeing around the fact that Rodgers isn’t the same player anymore,” Russini wrote. “I’m told no decisions have been made yet, but it appears increasingly likely that the four-time MVP, who is banged up, could be placed on injured reserve or possibly benched over the next few weeks, signaling the end of his disastrous time with the Jets. Some around the league say they won’t be surprised if Rodgers is cut in-season.”
Rodgers wants out
Rodgers and owner Woody Johnson have had a falling out this year. The Green Bay Packers legend wants to play during the 2025 season, but he wants out of the Jets to do so.
“As for Rodgers, his relationship with the owner has been strained for months — that’s not a secret in the building or the locker room,” Russini wrote. “At this point, after conversations with sources with the team and around the league, my understanding is that Rodgers still wants to play in 2025, just not for the New York Jets.”
The Jets have given Rodgers plenty of resources to get the job done on offense. Offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett and wide receivers Allen Lazard and Davante Adams are in New York because Rodgers wanted them there.
The failure is epic and the blame lies with Johnson and Rodgers.
The team is left in the crosshairs.
