Four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers is still a free agent as the 2025 NFL Draft draws closer and closer. This is, of course, the result of his own decision-making process. After being released by the New York Jets earlier this offseason, there were less than a handful of teams that expressed legitimate interest in the former Green Bay Packers star.
And now, there is just one remaining.
The Pittsburgh Steelers Are Waiting on Aaron Rodgers

That team, of course, is the Pittsburgh Steelers, who saw both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields depart in free agency. Wilson signed with the New York Giants, another team that had expressed interest in Rodgers, and Fields is replacing the future Pro Football Hall of Famer as the starting quarterback of the Jets.
It certainly seems as if all signs are pointing to Rodgers signing with Pittsburgh, too. He met with team coaches and front office personnel at their facility for six hours a couple of weeks ago, a meeting that many described as positive.
Last week, he had a throwing session with two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver DK Metcalf, whom the Steelers acquired via trade earlier this offseason.
But while Pittsburgh certainly seems like the favorite to sign Rodgers, it is also well-known that they are not his first choice.
The Minnesota Vikings Are Urged to Sign Joe Flacco Over Aaron Rodgers

The NFL team Rodgers wanted to play for is his former NFC North rival, the Minnesota Vikings. However, they seem fully committed to having JJ McCarthy, the tenth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, start despite his missing all of last season with a torn ACL.
And since this is the case, Khristopher Knox of Bleacher Report believes the Vikings would be better off looking into signing Super Bowl-winner Joe Flacco:
“While there’s been plenty of buzz about the Vikings and Aaron Rodgers—head coach Kevin O’Connell recently told reporters that the quarterback reached out to Minnesota—Joe Flacco would be a more sensible option.
“Flacco showed with the Colts last season that he can support a young quarterback and still be ready to start in a pinch. He could do the same in Minnesota without drawing the attention that Rodgers inevitably would.”
As Knox notes, Flacco is already assumed the role of mentor and spot starter on several teams, most recently for the Indianapolis Colts. Without Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones, Minnesota could use a veteran to help mentor McCarthy as he begins his NFL career.
And while Rodgers was a great mentor to Jordan Love in Green Bay, he did so as the starting quarterback there. There is no question that he wants to start in 2025, and that simply makes Minnesota an impossible destination for him.
