Aaron Rodgers is not done yet playing football, and he’ll put his aging body to the test anew in the 2025 NFL season as the starting quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Rodgers ended all speculations about a possible retirement in the offseason by signing a one-year contract worth $13.65 million with the Steelers, who had Justin Fields and Russell Wilson starting under center for them in 2024.
With Rodgers, Pittsburgh gets a future Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback, but whether Rodgers will play at a Canton-worthy level in 2025 is something the Steelers will just have to hope for. Rodgers was still an above-average QB as recently as 2024, when he passed for 3,897 passing yards and 28 touchdowns against 11 interceptions in 17 games with the Jets.
Steelers QB gushes over Aaron Rodgers’ gesture

Rodgers isn’t just going to be a starter for the Steelers; he’ll also be looked up to as a mentor by rookie quarterback Will Howard, who was selected in the sixth round (185th overall) of the 2025 NFL draft by the Steelers.
The former Ohio State Buckeyes star quarterback can consider himself lucky for having the opportunity to be around one of the best to ever in just his first year in the pros. Howard recently recalled a moment with Rodgers that he seemingly felt was straight out of a dream.
“I had an open seat next to me, and there came Aaron,” Howard said to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (h/t Carl Bahns of CBS). “I just thought it was pretty cool that he was willing to sit next to me. I remember even Day 1 he had a couple of things that we hadn’t really gone over yet … a couple of things he was asking me for clarification on. I’m like, ‘Holy s—, man. Aaron Rodgers is asking me questions right now, and I’m answering them. What is going on?’”
Howard can get used to it soon, but all the learnings he’s taking from Rodgers must be something he’ll cherish for a long time — if not forever.
