Aaron Rodgers’s future appears uncertain after two seasons into his career with the New York Jets. Rodgers’s impressive performance is not the recent wave going on but the overall shakeup within the Jets’ management.
With the firing of head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas, fans are questioning the trajectory of Rodgers’ tenure. As the whispers of trade deals and roster adjustments grow louder, it seems Rodgers might be playing his last games in New York.
Aaron Rodgers’ Career in New York Jets
Rodgers’ was traded from the Green Bay Packers to the Jets in the 2023 season with the expectation of bringing his impressive skill to the Jets team.
However, an Achilles tendon injury with just four offensive snaps into his debut season abruptly ended his first-year ambitions, creating a lot of uncertainty over his impact and prospects. Following his injury, Rodgers was meant to return for the 2024 season.
Unfortunately, Aaron’s performance dropped with just 17 touchdowns against seven interceptions, accumulating a passer rating of 88.9.
For a quarterback of his caliber, these are frustrating numbers, leaving fans and critics questioning his efficiency. On the other end, The Jets’ offensive line has been struggling.
Currently, the Jets ranked 26th in points per game, averaging just 18.5, they’re struggling to make headlines for anything more than their offensive shortcomings.
Their average of 294.4 yards per game showcases the hurdles they’ve faced on the field.

The team fired general manager Joe Douglas this Thursday and according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini cited sources suggests that Jets owner Woody Johnson is unlikely to retain Rodgers in 2025.
“The Jets have dropped seven of their past eight games in what was supposed to be a win-now season under Rodgers, whose future is cloudy,” wrote Cimini. “One source said he’d be ‘shocked’ if Johnson brings Rodgers back in 2025.”
The monetary prospects for holding on to Aaron Rodgers are not so rosy either. Having a hefty non-guaranteed cap hit of $23.5 million in 2025 hanging over their heads, the Jets are carefully exploring the alternatives.
The prospect of cuttng its losses and avoiding the temptation of signing an extension is flattering given the current upheaval. The 2024 season was intended to mark a new beginning for the Jets, one that would surpass the desperation and disappointments of prior seasons.
However, in the face of a 3-9 record, it is now certain that the “win-now” mindset did not materials as planned. Rather, the campaign has been marred by struggles and a lack of unity, with a portion of the blame and expectations directed at Aaron Rodgers.
The New York Jets’ next encounter is with the Seattle Seahawks on December 1st at MetLife Stadium for a 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff. While a win isn’t expected to turn the season around, it could give a glimmer of hope and redemption for a team accustomed to failure in their recent past games.
For some fans, it is quite unsettling to even contemplate the option of moving on from Aaron Rodgers after only two years with the franchise.
Still, it is a choice that may have to be made if the team is to radically transform its dynamics. The expected cap space and chances to reassess the roster and bring in new members might reach a level that the management will not be able to resist.
