The New York Jets made some dismal recent NFL history on Sunday. Going into Week Eight, NFL teams that held their opponents to 247 total yards or less were 220-0 since 2012. Well, New York held the New England Patriots to 247 total yards and lost 25-22.
Indeed, it was a game that the Jets should have won. Aaron Rodgers completed 17 of 28 passes for 233 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions, and had a passer rating of 111.2. Typically inept when running the ball (New York has the third-worst rushing offense in the NFL), Jets running backs put up 112 yards on the ground, outgaining the Patriots rushing game by one yard.
Furthermore, they did not commit any turnovers.
But it was not enough.
On top of doing what seemed like the pathetically impossible, the Jets fell to 2-6 on the season, a year that has become arguably the most disappointing campaign in franchise history.
New York Jets Fans Are Placing Blame on Quarterback Aaron Rodgers
According to Rich Cimini, who covers the Jets for ESPN, interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich called the loss “a moment of darkness.”
When told of Ulbrich’s statement, Rodgers said, “I’ve been in the darkness. You gotta go in there, make peace with it.”
This, of course, is a reference to the darkness retreat the four-time NFL MVP went on before he decided not to retire from the Green Bay Packers and pursue a trade.
His arrival in New York was supposed to bring in a bright future for the franchise. Instead, fans are blaming him for bringing the darkness with him:
If AR’s made peace w/sucking, then he can retire. Eyes are dead. The fire is gone.

Rodgers brought the darkness to the Jets

Touché. But maybe Rodgers is too comfortable with dark places. Maybe it’s time for him to go gently into that good night.

Go away rodgers just go away. Youll be a footnote in the history of the franchise in 10 years

Rodgers never knows when to just shut up.

It is easy to see why Jets fans are so frustrated. Rodgers and the rest of the team talked up the 2024 season like it was going to be their year.
Now, they are facing a very uncertain future and yet another rebuild.
