“A Low Risk Move”: New York Jets Urged To Make a Move For QB Kirk Cousins This Offseason

The New York Jets finished with a 3-14 record this past season and they have missed the playoffs for the last 15 seasons. New York has one of the worst quarterback situations in the NFL. The Jets currently draft second, but they are most likely not going to draft a quarterback in the first round. New York is going to have to stick with Justin Fields for another season or head in a different direction.

One player that could be potentially released or traded in the offseason is Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins. He would no doubt have a market if he didn’t want to stay with Atlanta. The Falcons can very well ride with quarterback Michael Penix Jr. heading into the 2026 NFL season.

The Jets are urged to make a move at the quarterback position this offseason. Wynston Wilcox of fansided.com thinks that the Jets should make a push for Cousins this offseason. Wilcox said,

The New York Jets are far from being playoff contenders, which is why they should probably focus more on just staying afloat this season. With Kirk Cousins being released, this is a low-risk move. Either he makes the Jets look better than they are or he’s a bridge option for a year so they can draft their future guy.”

Cousins is 37 years old and he would be good for at least one season with New York. Cousins is no doubt a better option than Fields. Last season with the Falcons, he completed 61.7% of his passes for 1,721 yards, 10 touchdowns, and five interceptions. Atlanta may want to keep him around next year with Penix to compete for the starting job, but it might be too expensive for the Falcons to keep him around as a backup quarterback.
