NFL teams have until May 1 to either exercise or decline the fully guaranteed 5th-year options of the 1st round picks from the 2022 NFL Draft class for the 2026 season. If a particular team traded for a 1st round pick, they are responsible for making the decision, not the team that originally drafted them. If a player were to get cut, they would be ineligible for the 5th-year option, i.e., Lewis Cine.

How are the 5th-year options for the 2022 NFL Draft class calculated?

5th-year options are determined based on their position and the four unique tiers, which include basic, playtime, one Pro Bowl, and multiple Pro Bowls on the original ballot. Here are the four tiers and their calculations. This information has been derived from Over The Cap.

    1. Basic: If a player failed to meet the playing time requirements for Tier 2 and failed to make a Pro Bowl on the original ballot. Tier 1 is equal to the average of the 3rd to 25th highest salaries at the position over the past five years.
    2. Playtime: If a player has played 75% of snaps or greater in two of their first three seasons, or if they played 50% of snaps or greater in each of their first three seasons. Tier 2 is equal to the average of the 3rd to 20th highest salaries at the position over the past five years.
    3. One Pro Bowl. If a player made the Pro Bowl on the original ballot and was not an alternate. Tier 3 is equal to the transition tag tender.
    4. Multiple Pro Bowls. If a player made the Pro Bowl more than once on the original ballot. Tier 4 is equal to the franchise tag tender.
