Welcome to the fourth installment of this series, which focuses on five more NFL players who either began 2024 as starters or filled in and started most of the year, now in danger of losing their starting jobs. Due to restrictions on live contact and the absence of padded practices during the spring, position battles do not heat up until the summer. Many rookies drafted high are expected to start in Week 1, potentially dethroning starters at their position.

Los Angeles Chargers: G Trey Pipkins III

Trey Pipkins III moved to right guard and struggled in pass protection but did okay in run blocking. He allowed 29 pressures, two quarterback hits, and six sacks, posting a 49.7 pass-blocking grade, a 63.7 run-blocking grade, and a 57.8 PFF grade in 13 starts at right guard and two at right tackle. Pipkins missed Week 10 with an ankle injury and Week 17 with a hip injury.
Due to Mekhi Becton joining the Chargers and taking over at right guard, he will compete for the left guard position against Bradley Bozeman and Zion Johnson, who are also vying for the center job. The player who loses the center battle will likely start at left guard. Pipkins will also contend for the swing tackle role.
