In the modern NFL era, we have seen tons of teams moving off their head coach every single season. Last year there were 8 coaching openings and this season looks like it will be about the same. While two teams have already fired their coaches before the end of the season, there are at least five more teams who are set to fire their head coaches as well.
Adam Schefter Highlights 5 NFL Coaches In Big Trouble
The New York Jets, being the biggest circus in the league, fired their head coach Robert Saleh first, and more recently, the New Orleans Saints fired their head coach Dennis as well. Both teams have started this season awfully and it made sense that they would be the first to go, but there are reportedly many more coaches that will be following them.
Per ESPN and NFL insider Schefter, there are at least five more coaches who are going to be fired before the beginning of next season. Shefter went on the Pat McAfee Show this week and he went into full detail about all the other coaches that he thinks will get fired this upcoming offseason. There are going to be many job openings according to Schefter, as he thinks there will be 7-9 openings. If you do the math, that means at least five more coaches will be getting fired:
“When I look ahead into this season, there will be no less than seven, and I will say the realistic range is seven to nine, and it’s probably closer to the over than the under,” Schefter said. “And if it came in over nine, that wouldn’t be the most shocking thing either. But I think seven to nine is realistic, probably eight or nine.”

While Schefter made this report, the real question becomes who are the five coaches that he is talking about?
The first one to mention is Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson, as there have already been many reports that he is going to get fired any week now. The other obvious choice is the Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy who was on thin ice heading into the season. The Cowboys have been one of the worst teams in the league, and Jerry Jones will probably send McCarthypacking after the season.
The two other likely candidates are Matt Eberflus of the Chicago Bears and Antonio Pierce from the Las Vegas Raiders. They are both on the hot seat, and depending on how the rest of the season goes they can both be fired before next year.
After those four,m it gets a bit complicated as to who Schefter may be referring to. Potentially the Bucs could get rid of their head coach Todd Bowles, but the team has suffered so many injuries this year, and they started very strong under his leadership. There is also the potential that if the Philadelphia Eagles are an early playoff exit they may move off of Nick Sirianni.
The New York Giants may also be thinking about firing their head coach Brian Daboll after a very messy season, and just announcing Daniel Jones being benched.
It is shaping up to be quite the hectic offseason as there are so many candidates to take over these vacant jobs, it is going to be madness. With guys like Bill Belichick, Mike Vrabel, and Ben Johnson, there are going to be a lot of new faces of leadership when the 2025 season begins.
