The start of the 2024 NFL season cannot come fast enough for football fans. Today, we get one step closer, as eight teams will have rookies report to training camp. Some of these rookies were top picks in the draft earlier this year.
So, who are some of the biggest names to watch? Here are the five biggest rookies reporting for training camp.
5. Rome Odunze (WR- Chicago Bears)
With the ninth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears selected WR Rome Odunze. He comes from the University of Washington, which just recently made a championship run. He was a key reason why Washington made it to the college football national championship. Now, Odunze looks to continue making a big impact on the pro level.
4. Xavier Worthy (WR- Kansas City Chiefs)
Despite having one of the later picks in the first round, the Kansas City Chiefs made some noise with their selection in the draft. Kansas City ended up drafting Xavier Worthy, a WR coming out of the University of Texas.
Like Odunze, Worthy did help lead Texas to a playoff appearance last season. However, there is one notable reason why Worthy ended up getting drafted in the first round. He set the record for the fastest 40-yard dash time ever during the NFL Scouting Combine. As a result, some people believe he can be used similarly to Tyreek Hill with Patrick Mahomes as his quarterback.
3. Joe Alt (OT- Los Angeles Chargers)
Some people may be surprised to see an offensive lineman take the third spot on this list. However, there are two notable reasons why Alt is this high on the list. Both of those reasons have to do with his significance.
For starters, Alt was the first offensive lineman selected in the 2024 NFL Draft. Second, the Los Angeles Chargers are in desperate need of a reliable offensive lineman. Last season, the Chargers saw their star QB Justin Herbert go down with a season-ending injury. Now, they are hoping Alt can help protect Herbert in the pocket.
2. Malik Nabers (WR- New York Giants)
Nabers may arguably be the most important wide receiver drafted by a team. That is because the New York Giants have struggled mightily at this position for years. This dates back to the team trading Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns.
That took place five years ago. Since then, the Giants have failed to replace him. Now, the team is hoping they hit on Nabers after selecting him as the sixth overall pick.
1. Caleb Williams (QB- Chicago Bears)
It should be no surprise that Caleb Williams is the top name on this list. Many expect him to be a generational quarterback and potentially the guy who leads the Bears to their second Super Bowl title. As the top selection in the 2024 NFL Draft that saw six quarterbacks get taken with the first 12 picks, Williams will certainly draw a lot of attention this season.
