The San Francisco 49ers are going into the 2024 season with expectations of once again being a favorite to win the Super Bowl. San Francisco has lost in the conference championship twice since 2019 as well as two Super Bowl losses in that time.
Finally winning the Super Bowl is atop their priority list. However, rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall’s career got off to a rough start. Now the 49ers have made the next decision on his future.
San Francisco 49ers Make Decision On Ricky Pearsall’s Immediate Future
According to the 49ers’ official website:
The San Francisco 49ers announced they have signed OL Brandon Parker to a one-year deal. In order to make room on the roster, the team placed WR Ricky Pearsall on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury List.
In addition, the team signed DL Sam Okuayinonu to the team’s practice squad and released OL Sebastian Gutierrez.
Parker (6-8, 320) was originally drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the third round (65th overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft. Throughout his five-year career with the Raiders (2018-23), he has appeared in 59 games (33 starts) and started in one postseason contest. In 2023, Parker appeared in five games (one start) with Las Vegas.
Parker originally signed with the 49ers on March 18, 2024 and was waived by the team on August 27.
This designation will mean Pearsall will miss the first for games of the season (at least).
After being shot during an alleged attempted robbery in Union Square on Saturday, 49ers first-round draft pick Pearsall was released from the hospital on Sunday.
One day after the incident, Pearsall was upgraded to “fair condition,” and then hours later the team announced he had been released and was recovering from the “bullet wound to his chest.”
Police told KTXL’s Sean Cunningham that Pearsall was shot after a struggle for the gun with a suspect, who was allegedly attempting to steal a Rolex watch while Pearsall was going to a signing event.
The suspect, who is in custody, was also reportedly shot through the chest and is stable at San Francisco General Hospital, where Pearsall is being treated.
