The San Francisco 49ers will face the Philadelphia Eagles this Sunday. Ahead of the NFC Championship game, head coach Kyle Shanahan provided updates for key 49ers injuries. Take a look at the list, and if there is a genuine cause for concern, or if the injury report is out of precaution.
49ers Injuries: DNP
Jimmy Garoppolo (Foot)
This one comes as no surprise that quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo did not participate in practice. On Wednesday the quarterback had x-rays done on his foot that confirmed that he could not return to practice yet and will be out for the NFC Championship Game
Christian McCaffrey (Calf)
Runningback Christian McCaffrey has been dealing with a calf injury since the Divisional Round against the Dallas Cowboys. McCaffrey stated after the game that he will be good to go for the NFC Championship round, but there is still some concern.
According to Matt Maiocco, NBCSports Bay Area writer, Shanahan still has the same concerns today as he did yesterday for McCaffrey. While time will tell, this is something to watch for as it is one of the key 49ers injuries. McCaffrey did however state that there is a 0% chance that he will not play in that game, according to multiple 49ers reporters.
Elijah Mitchell (Groin)
Runningback Elijah Mitchell is another player who did not participate in practice today. Mitchell played the full game against the Dallas Cowboys but has been listed as having a groin injury. Shanahan said the same about Mitchell as he did for McCaffrey that there is no change from yesterday. This is something to monitor, as the team’s top two running backs are both on the injury report as of now. Having two of the 49ers injuries being their top running backs is not the best news for San Francisco.
49ers Injuries: Limited
Deebo Samuel (ankle)
Deebo Samuel appeared on the injury report yesterday as did not participate, but after the press conference, he ended up going out and doing light work. This is great news for the team, and once again being limited is a good sign. Samuel has dealt with many injuries and has been limited in practices before games that he ended up playing in anyway. This is still one of the 49ers injuries to monitor.
Charles Omenihu (Oblique)
Defensive end Charles Omenihu left the Dallas game early with an injury. He was limited both today and yesterday, demonstrating a good chance that he will play in the upcoming NFC Championship game. There have been off-the-field issues concerning Omenihu, but as the legal system is still going through the process, he is set to play if the injury allows him to.
Ambry Thomas (Ankle)
Cornerback Ambry Thomas has not seen the field often this season. He has been dealing with an ankle injury for multiple weeks now. This is the first week that Thomas was able to be limited at practice, which is great news for the young cornerback. The 49ers have been limited at defensive back depth, and while he would not take up the starting role being out this long, it would be great for the team to have him back in the NFC Championship game.
Overall, this is the same injury report as yesterday. The NFC Championship will take place Sunday at 3:00 pm Eastern. Keep an eye out for these 49ers injuries.
