The San Francisco 49ers love to make things interesting. After building a 27-10 lead going into the 4th quarter on Sunday Night Football, the Cowboys came storming back. The Cowboys put up 14 points in the 4th and nearly finished off a remarkable comeback before falling short. The 49ers were able to escape with a 30-24 victory. Brock Purdy finished the night 18 for 26 with two touchdown passes. George Kittle was solid for the 49ers as he finished with six catches for 128 yards and a touchdown. Kittle made a little bit of team history as well, hauling in his 500th catch a 49er. Sunday night also happened to be National Tight Ends Day, so that was a nice cherry on top. Kittle has already cemented his place firmly as one of the all time 49er greats, so his 500th catch was just another milestone for him. What was more concerning for the 49ers is how they continue to let teams back into games. The defense allowed two touchdowns to CeeDee Lamb in the 4th quarter that made the 49er fanbase a little nervous. What is the deal with the 49ers letting teams claw their way back this year?
Defensive Woes
Ji’Ayir Brown and Deommodore Lenoir both picked off Dak Prescott on a night that felt like the 49ers defense was finally making strides. This was extremely encouraging considering the amount of criticism they have received so far this season. I would bet the 49ers defense is itching to get Dre Greenlaw and Talanoa Hufanga back right about now. That would be a huge motivational boost and would improve the defensive side of the ball dramatically. Once the third quarter concluded, it seemed as if this game would be a blowout victory for San Francisco. Unfortunately, the defense begin to falter and make multiple mental mistakes, a common trend for the 2024 49ers. The secondary allowed CeeDee Lamb to find himself wide open for two easy touchdowns late in the contest. How can the secondary suddenly forget about CeeDee Lamb in the fourth quarter? You could almost sense this was going to happen. The 49ers have made every game they have played this year a nerve-racking mess. Ultimately the defense was able to stop Dallas with a few minutes left, draining the clock to finish off the victory.

More Injuries?
Yes, the injury bug has struck again unfortunately for the 49ers. Jordan Mason went down with a shoulder injury and did not return. Mason has been an absolute beast filling in for the injured Christian McCaffrey. Luckily the 49ers backfield has a third back who is making some noise this season. Isaac Guerendo filled in nicely with 85 rushing yards on 14 carriers. Guerendo has been solid behind Mason and continues to build confidence as the year has gone on. Linebacker Dee Winters was evaluated in the third quarter and it was determined that he had a concussion. Renardo Green also exited the game after suffering an ankle injury. One player that continues to show up on the injury list is Deebo Samuel. This time he injured his rib and did not return for the rest of the game. It’s no surprise that the injuries for the 49ers continue to pile up. After all that has happened, at this point, they are simply trying to hang on for dear life.
A Win Is A Win
With all the bad fortune the 49ers have had this season, finding ways to win is all that matters now. Things could’ve gone south very quickly in the fourth quarter last night but, in the end, the 49ers were able to pull it out. The bye week could not have come at a better time. It will give the team a chance to rest up their banged up roster and get back to basics. By their next game on November 10th against Tampa Bay, the 49ers are hoping to be healthy enough to get back to winning consistently. Until then, they will just have to figure out a way to win, and win comfortably.
