Deebo Samuel dropped some crazy bombs in his most recent podcast session, and he revealed that he honestly thought he wouldn’t be on the team at this present moment. While there was some crazy movement for receivers at the trade deadline, Deebo apparently thought he would be a part of that movement.
Deebo Samuel Really Thought He Was Getting Traded

The San Francisco 49ers have had an up-and-down season so far but they are getting some key players back for a playoff push. Deebo is one of the key players they are getting back, and thankfully for 49ers fans, he is still on the team. He revealed that he did not expect to be on the team a this point as he thought he would be one of the receivers that would be moved ahead of the trade deadline.
On the Cleats and Convos podcast, Samuel shared a story about a nerve-wracking moment he experienced earlier this week. He received a call from 49ers general manager John Lynch, which immediately set off alarm bells in his mind.
Lynch was simply calling to check in on a commercial Samuel was scheduled to film that day. But Samuel admitted that, for a split second, he feared the worst—that Lynch was calling to inform him he’d been traded.
“I look at my phone like ‘Yo, why is he calling me right now?'” Samuel said. “I answer the phone, he’s like ‘Yeah, man, my daughter’s going to be the one running the NFL commercial that you’re doing today.’ I’m like ‘Don’t be calling me…’ I don’t think he was actually thinking about the time he was calling me. I looked down at my phone like ‘Why is this man calling me right now?'”
It makes sense that Deebo would feel this way, as he has been centered around trade talks for quite some time now. The team, however, needs him now more than ever as they lost their other top receiver Brandon Aiyuk for the season.
This however does not look great for Samuel’s future with the team. Where there is smoke there is fire, and Deebo may not be on the team for that much longer.

NFL fans thought this whole part of the podcast was quite comedic:
“Man thought he was about to be a Jaguar,” one user said with a laughing emoji.
“Lynch should have started the conversation with ‘Hey, the Panthers reached out today,'” another joked.
“Hahaha deeebo like hell na not on my day off,” wrote a third.
Deebo is one of the fundamental pieces for Kyle Shanahan and this offense to get them going and he can be used all over the field at multiple positions. It would have been a shocking trade to see him move teams in the middle of the year, but for this season Deebo will be with the 49ers.
This may be foreshadowing a potential move for Samuel in the near future. The 49ers drafted a receiver in the first round and gave Aiyuk all the money he was asking for, so it would make sense that Deebo will be moving to another team soon as they will not have the money to pay him.
