The San Francisco 49ers beat the Miami Dolphins, 33-17, and made a massive statement to the rest of the NFL! There are a lot of questions to monitor with the 49ers going forward, but the big question is, can the 49ers’ Brock Purdy keep San Francisco’s playoff hopes alive?
49ers Brock Purdy is QB1

This season, the main story for the 49ers has been injury issues, and today they were dealt another significant injury. In the first quarter, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo left the game with a foot injury. Rookie quarterback Brock Purdy, Mr. Irrelevant, was called into the spotlight in an emergency situation with Garoppolo being carted off late in the first quarter.
After the game, the 49ers got some heartbreaking news regarding Garoppolo’s injury. Per David Lombardi of the Athletic, the 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan stated that Garoppolo’s season is over. He broke a few bones in his foot and will require surgery to repair the foot.
The time is now for 49ers’ Brock Purdy to step up and become the 49ers starting quarterback with injuries to Garoppolo and Trey Lance. 49ers Brock Purdy was shoved into the spotlight and didn’t miss a beat. He led the offense to a double-digit win versus a good Dolphins defense. 49ers Brock Purdy had a solid stat line. He completed 25 of 37 passes for 210 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.
The 49ers showed even with a rookie third-string quarterback running the offense; they could beat any team in the NFL in any fashion. 49ers Brock Purdy showed a lot of guts, grit, and swagger on the field, making big play after big play and leading many scoring drives against a solid Dolphins defense. 49ers Brock Purdy showed some nice flashes today, he threw the ball 37 times today, and you have to give credit where credit is due.
49ers Brock Purdy Backup

With the 49ers being without Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo due to injury, San Francisco needs to add another quarterback. Per ESPN NFL Senior Insider Adam Schefter, the 49ers are signing quarterback Josh Johnson off the Denver Broncos practice squad.
Johnson is a journeyman, nonetheless. He has been in the league for 13 years and has been on 14 different teams. He is a back up and insurance for 49ers Brock Purdy. 49ers Brock Purdy balled out under pressure on short notice, and Shanahan called a great game, but the game’s story was by far the 49ers’ defense.
Defense Wins Championships

The 49ers’ Brock Purdy will be the focal point of the upcoming games for San Francisco, but the 49ers’ defense will be the underlying factor determining the fate of the 49ers’ season. The 49ers’ defense faced one of the best and most explosive offenses in the NFL and made a statement to the rest of the NFL.
Despite a 75-yard touchdown pass on the game’s first play, they held the Dolphins to only 17 points. The craziest stat of the day was that the 49ers held the Dolphins high flying offense of Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Raheem Mostert, and Jeff Wilson Jr. to 0 for seven on third down attempts. The 49ers showed the NFL that they are indeed the best defense in the NFL. And the best defense in the NFL is led by the best edge rusher in the NFL.
Bosa had a great game against the Dolphins. He had three sacks on the day and a forced fumble. Per David Lombardi, 49ers writer for the Athletic, Bosa leads the NFL with 14.5 sacks in 11 games. As a result, Bosa is leading the conversation for Defensive player of the year in the NFL.
No Need For Concern

San Francisco took a brutal blow by losing Garroppolo for the season with season-ending foot surgery. Many teams in the NFL would be in chaos if they lost their starting quarterback and backup quarterback, but the 49ers shouldn’t worry.
The 49ers’ roster is so deep and talented, with an elite defense and playmakers all over the offense, that losing their first and second-string quarterbacks won’t set them back from their goal of winning a championship.
Fans of the 49ers may be concerned with Purdy leading the offense, but All-Pro Linebacker Fred Warner isn’t concerned. Per Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area, Warner believes 49ers Brock Purdy will be fine because he’s been going against the best defense in the NFL in practice all season.
If All-Pro Linebacker Fred Warner isn’t concerned, then you shouldn’t be concerned about 49ers Brock Purdy leading the offense. If the 49ers’ defense stays healthy, continues their dominant play, and Purdy doesn’t make erroneous errors, gets the football to their many playmakers on offense, and doesn’t turn the ball over at a high rate, the 49ers should be in prime position to keep their playoff hopes alive.
