The San Francisco 49ers agree to terms with a former first round draft pick. The 49ers have agreed to terms with Clelin Ferrell. Ferrell was drafted in the first round by the Las Vegas Raiders in 2019. He was drafted with the fourth pick, and in that same year, the 49ers drafted Nick Bosa with the second pick. Unfortunately for the Las Vegas Raiders, Ferrell never worked out for them. Here is information on the agreed-upon deal.

It was reported by Adam Schefter on Twitter that the 49ers and Ferrell agreed to a one-year deal. The price has still not been released, but the team can make it official soon, with the league year beginning today. While this is not a big name signing, the 49ers have done well with players who were not utilized on their previous team.

The 49ers have lost many depth players on the defensive line in free agency this year. Some of these players include Samson Ebukam and Charles Omenihu. The team losing Omenihu to the Kansas CIty Chiefs made the need for another defensive end player crucial. Ferrell playing on a stacked defensive line, under the coaching of Kris Kocurek could resurrect his career.

This is not the first time that a free agent has signed with the 49ers after being with the Raiders. Defensive lineman Arden Key was drafted by the Raiders and had just three sacks in three years, according to Pro Football Reference. He then went to the 49ers on a one-year deal and had 6.5 sacks in just that one season. While this signing seems small now, Clelin Ferrell could have high potential during the 2023 season.

The 49ers are known to sign defensive linemen to one-year deals, and could use the added depth.
