The College Football Season is getting closer. With 39 days left until BYU kickoffs against South Florida let’s get to know some players on the roster for this upcoming season. This will give fans an idea of where these players have come from and what they could do for the cougars this season. I will do one every day there is a player with that number.
Jake Oldroyd
Today is Jake Oldroyd junior kicker and punter at 6-1 195 lbs. Oldroyd played his first season in 2016 and then went on a two-year mission in Chile. In 2016 he hit the game-winner against Arizona in the final seconds of the season opener. After that, he redshirted due to injury. Started playing in 2019 again and has gone 60 for 60 in PATs and 8 for 8 in field goals in the last two years. He has also placed 25 punts inside the 20.
Before coming to BYU he played many different sports but didn’t start football and playing kicker until junior high. Oldroyd got hurt early in camp and then was ready to play in the Arizona game. He brought those green shoes to camp and didn’t want to ask anyone for new shoes. His coaches talk about his confidence on the sideline during that first game and they just say it’s different than many other teammates.
2019 he missed some kicks and that’s where the mental game became a battle. He loves to play the piano and finds it peaceful and destressing. Ready to play and start for the Cougars on special teams again this year. If we need him he knows how to shine and win a game or pin an opposing team deep.
