September 12th, 2022. This marks the return of Rusell Wilson back to Seattle. It was quite a spectacle. I attended the game with my little brother and arrived five hours early and left an hour after the game.

We are die-hard hawks fans. We fans wanted this game bad. Russell Wilson was an amazing face of the organization in his early years, he helped us win our only Super Bowl, and brought a lot of positivity to Seattle.

But after a few years, he became an elitist. He cared more about his brand and his image rather than the guys to his left and right. His return to Seattle will forever be unforgettable. So far, I am 1-0 on my predictions for the season ahead.

What was it like at the game?

    Passionate. inspired. Determined.

Fans weren’t as happy-go-lucky as they usually are. Some fans changed the back of Russell’s jersey into “traitor”. One guy had a chef hat on with a sign saying “Let’s Cook Russ”. My brother and I bought brand new D.K. and Lockett jerseys as well as game-day pins.

We were all locked in and needed this Nationally televised win. Please hawks. We can lose any other game of the year, but we need this one. It felt like us against Russ. 12>3 signs were everywhere, and bright green towels were given out.

Arriving four hours before the game allowed me to check out “Touchdown City” and participate in the festivities such as:

    • Field goals for a free Hawks beanie.
    • Run a scensored 40-yard dash.
    • Watch an nterview with Mariners’ Catcher Cal Raleigh.
    • Watch the Seattle Sports Morning show on the stage happen live.
    • Interact with other 12s and purchase merchandise.

68,000+ 12s screamed at the top of their lungs when the Broncos came out. It wasn’t directed solely at Russ, but at everyone on the opposing team.

Takeaway 1: Geno Looks Good Enough to Get Some Wins

Geno Smith shocked the world. He finished 23 of 28 for 194 yards and two TDs for a 119.5 passer rating. He was poised, focused, clean, and smart.

We don’t need a quarterback who is extremely flashy. We just need someone who can keep turnovers to a minimum (Geno had 0 this game), a leader his teammates are behind, and someone who wants to win.

Sure, Geno is in his 10th season and hasn’t had the flashiest career. But he has tons of experience playing behind quarterbacks such as Eli Manning and Russell Wilson – two Superbowl Winning Quarterbacks.

If he was a backup for so long, and is still in the league 10 years later, there’s a reason. He’s still got it. Although he may not be in his prime, we’re starting to see glimpses back to his stellar play back at West Virginia.

Buckle up for an interesting season with Geno. Let’s not overreact to his gameplay Monday night, but let’s also not downplay his ability to get the ball in the end zone.

Takeaway 2:  The Seahawks Defense is Solid

The Hawks’ defense was able to produce 2 goal-line stops, and holding the Broncos to just 16 points.

SACK! @astronaut gets Denver the ball back.

    Some notable defensive performances include:

    • Quandre Diggs – 6 tackles, 1 forced fumble
    • Uchenna Nwosu –  1 sack
    • Jordyn Brooks – 12 tackles
    • Cody Barton – 10 tackles, 2 tackls for loss, 1 sack, 1 QB hurry. (Sack was extremely satisfying.
    • Michael Jackson – 2 fumble recoveries

The defense was clean for the majority of the night. The 12s helped out by screaming at the top of their lungs (I almost lost my voice). The Hawks let Russ pass the under routes to his runningbacks throughout the night and only let a few big plays slip by them.

ANOTHER goal line fumble forced by the @Seahawks!

Takeaway 3: The Hawks are United Again Like The 2012-2015 Superbowl Team.

There is no doubt that the Hawks came together Monday night more than any other game in the past three seasons. The Russell Wilson drama caused a lot of unnecessary attention and distracted from the biggest thing, winning.

    This place is LOUD. @Seahawks.

These guys are playing for one another. They all have chips on their shoulders because everyone wrote them off before the season even started. I had my doubts initially, but after their season debut, there is a lot to look forward to.

    Final Thoughts

Everyone can write off the Seahawks, but they know who they are.  Hopefully, this is the beginning of an awesome season, and the rebuilding rumors die out.

This Hawks team is special. I believe John Schneider and the Seahawks front office drafted very well and made a lot of great off-season moves.

Keep your eye on the Hawks this year. They’re leading the division, but the question is for how long?

    Go Hawks!
