There is no easy way to say this but the Packers should be sellers at the deadline. The team has too many issues and is not a move away from winning a Super Bowl. It’s time to think about the future. Here are 3 players the Packers should trade before the deadline.
DE Dean Lowry

Dean Lowry begins the list of 3 players the Packers should trade before the deadline. Lowry is in the last year of his deal and is unlikely to sign with the team in the offseason. The Packers have a plethora of defensive line talent with Kenny Clark and TJ Slaton so moving on from Lowry would not hurt a lot in the short term. Lowry’s production has also not lived up to his potential this season. Through seven games he has only recorded half a sack. Even with the production, there is one huge reason why Dean Lowry is one of 3 players the packers should trade.
The Packers spent a first-round pick on Devonte Wyatt. He has not gotten a lot of playing time due to the backlog of players at the position. The Packers need to start looking toward the future and that starts with evaluating and developing young talent. Devonte Wyatt should be seeing the field a lot more in the back half of the season. Let him make mistakes. Let him get the game reps. It will be better for the Packers long term. This is the biggest reason for having Dean Lowry on the list of 3 players the Packers should trade before the deadline.
S Darnell Savage

Darnell Savage is the next on the list of 3 players the Packers should trade before the deadline. Savage does have one more year on his deal but I think it is time to move on from the safety. He showed so much promise in his first three years out of Maryland. That promise has never turned into anything. Every season the Packers go in hoping that Savage can make a leap and he simply hasn’t. He takes bad angles in run defense. His instincts in the passing game seem off. He is the perfect example of a good but not great player.
A big reason why I have him on this list of 3 players the Packers should trade is that I think they could get a pretty decent pick for him. If a team has had safety injuries Savage would be a great short-term replacement. He wouldn’t cost a lot and if he didn’t work out, the team simply would not resign him. It is a very low-risk move. The Packers have done well with their mid-round picks for the most part recently so picking another one up in an upcoming draft would be great.
QB Jordan Love

Of all players on the list of 3 players the Packers should trade before the deadline, this one is the most unlikely. This regime traded up for Jordan Love. Their fates are most likely tied to whether he becomes a starting-caliber quarterback in this league. However, I think it is time to admit the Jordan Love project was not a success. He is already 26 years old. If Aaron Rodgers spends another year in the league, Love will be 28 before he gets the full-time starting job. At that point, the Packers only have a short window with Love. Move on and reset. Grab a young quarterback prospect and try and develop him in the next year or two.
Depending on where the Packers finish this year, they could pick up a top quarterback in the draft. This quarterback class is deep so it is realistic that the Packers could land a top pick if they do not turn this season around quickly. The other element is that Brian Gutekunst and Matt LaFleur just signed extensions in the offseason. While anyone can be fired at any time, it seems the front office has some slack to make decisions. Admit the Love project wasn’t a success, recoup some picks and move on.
These are 3 players the Packers should trade before the deadline. One surprise might be that I did not include Amari Rodgers but I think with the wide receiver injuries, Amari is a necessity for better or worse. Also, stop with the Aaron Rodgers trade talk. It isn’t happening nor should it. The Packers need to start thinking about the future. If they can get some more picks, they will have more flexibility in the offseason.
