The Penn State Nittany Lions starting quarterback Drew Allar could miss extended time with a knee injury suffered against the Badgers.
The Nittany Lions traveled to Madison to take on the Big Ten Conference rival Wisconsin Badgers in a massive game. The Badgers came out swinging and made it a game, stopping the Nittany Lions on defense and scoring twice. Penn State has been fighting back, but with Allar sidelined with a knee injury, the offense could be stalled moving forward.
Allar left the game and went to the injury tent on the sideline before returning with a brace and no helmet. The quarterback wandered around the sideline and appeared to speak with his coaches and ask for a chance to hit the field again. The injury did not look extremely serious, but without undergoing tests, the severity is completely unknown.
The quarterback recorded 148-yards passing and one touchdown against the Wisconsin Badgers defense before exiting the game. The Nittany Lions have surprisingly been avoiding running the football against the Badgers, which is odd considering Wisconsin struggles with defending the run.
Running backs Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen have both been quiet for the Nittany Lions against the Badgers defense.
Can the Penn State Nittany Lions Win Moving Forward Without Drew Allar?
While the exact severity of his injury is unknown, there is the potential that the Penn State Nittany Lions will have to play without the help of Allar.
Allar has recorded 1492-yards passing, 11 touchdowns, four interceptions, and a quarterback rating of 86.8 which ranks sixth-overall. While some fans might not be satisfied with the play of Allar at times, trying to find someone to replicate his value to the team is going to be a difficult task. If Allar must miss extended time due to his knee injury, the Penn State Nittany Lions will have to scramble to find a new resolution.
Sophomore quarterback Beau Pribula is the next man up and the likely player who can attempt to replicate what Allar can offer. Pribula can pass the ball, but does not have the strongest arm and has often been the running option for the team. Pribula had ten total touchdowns last season with six of them coming on the ground for the Penn State Nittany Lions.
Pribula has three touchdowns so far this season for the Nittany Lions, but has not been used nearly as much as he was during the 2023 season. However, with Allar potentially out, Pribula could ignite the rush offense and cause the Nittany Lions to move towards a power-rush approach.
Pribula is an intelligent quarterback and a capable passer, but his strength is truly on the ground with the football. Moving forward the Nittany Lions could be in safe hands with Pribula, who had taken time to learn from Allar during his freshman season.
