There was no perfect way out for Shilo Sanders, and the 2025 NFL Draft fell well short of what he’d envisioned — but his future in the NFL has still come true.
Shilo Sanders quickly found a landing spot after not being drafted in the first seven rounds. After firing his father, Deion Sanders and signing with Drew Rosenhaus, he was quickly scooped up by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent, according to ESPN.

Shilo Sanders College Career
Shilo went into the draft as a potential late-round prospect, but faced some challenges. At 6 feet tall and 195 pounds, he didn’t boast top-end size or speed, running a 4.52-second 40-yard dash at Colorado’s pro day. Injuries — including a torn ACL and shoulder surgery — also raised concerns for NFL teams, along with off-field issues dating back to his high school years.
However, Shilo carved out his name, if only in flashes, during his time at Colorado. He had 67 tackles and a sack in 10 games last season, and was physical and football smart. His intense, “old-school” style of play drew praise from his father.
“Shilo has been consistently a pillar of consistency,” Deion Sanders said via the Associated Press. “Shilo is an old-school player playing under these new-school guidelines. Shilo is a dawg. I’m so darn proud of him.”
Though it’s not the situation you’d draw up, there is a silver lining to not being drafted. It allows players to choose a situation that fits them best. Sanders will get a shot at earning a role on a Tampa Bay defense seeking to add depth in the secondary. The Buccaneers have no problem finding undrafted gems and hope Sanders can be next.
