The Colorado Buffaloes look to make some noise after undergoing massive changes from last season. There is a lot of exciting things for the program heading into the 2025 season, but the reports are saying they just landed a massive piece for their coaching staff. Let’s take a closer look at who it is and what it means going forward for the Colorado Buffaloes.
Colorado Buffaloes Adding Byron Leftwich

Byron Leftwich is going to be the newest member of the coaching staff for the Colorado Buffaloes, per the Denver Post. He has been a free agent since being let go following the 2022 NFL season, where he was the offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was the offensive coordinator for the Bucs when they won Super Bowl XLIII, and he brings another quality coach with hardware in the program.
Although he is now part of the coaching staff, his official title is not yet known. It appears that he will have some say with the quarterbacks as a former quarterback himself. This could help bringing another set of eyes on the Colorado Buffaloes quarterback battle between transfer Kaidon Salter and true freshman Julian Sayin.
It was first reported back in March that Byron Leftwich would be joining the Buffs. However, things became a bit dicey as the two sides were apparently still working things out. It was to the point that during the Big 12 Media Days, Deion Sanders said he was “praying (Leftwich) does the right thing” by accepting the offer.
