As the season winds down, a vast majority of teams are looking toward offseason moves. Many teams have to make the decision on which players to bring back and which players to go get. There is no shortage of running backs that are available. Of the 2023 NFL free agents, here are the top 5 running backs.
2023 NFL Free Agents: Running Backs
There is a lot of talent out but these are the five that I think stand out from the rest of the class. Many of them had career years and are looking for their next big payday.

#5: Kareem Hunt
2022 stats: 123 carries, 468 yards, 3 TD; 35 catches, 210 yards, 1 TD
Hunt had a down year but the upside is there. In 2020 he scored a total of 11 touchdowns while being the number two back behind Nick Chubb. His ability to run and catch the ball makes him an intriguing free agent for many teams. The risk with Hunt is that he does not produce as he did with the Chiefs and early on with the Browns. However, there is enough upside there that some team will go after him.

#4: Tony Pollard
193 carries, 1,007 yards, 9 TD; 39 catches, 371 yards, 3 TD
I feel like very few people talk about Pollard as a top back because he lives in the shadow of Ezekiel Elliott, Dak Prescott, and the rest of the circus surrounding the Cowboys. However, Pollard is one of the most electric backs in the league. Even with the injury in the playoffs, the Cowboys definitely want to resign him and may use the franchise tag to keep him. Pollard may want to try and be the feature back on a team and not second fiddle. This is a situation to watch as the offseason rolls on.

#3: Miles Sanders
259 carries, 1,269 yards, 11 TD
Sanders had a bounce-back year scoring a career-high 11 touchdowns. He was a part of an offensive juggernaut that involved Jalen Hurts, AJ Brown, and Devonta Smith. He was not really a factor in the passing game but this is probably due to how many weapons the Eagles have. Hurts’ mobility also plays a factor in that as he may look to scramble rather than check it down to a running back. Sanders had his best year at the right time and it will likely result in him getting paid.

#2: Josh Jacobs
340 carries, 1,653 yards, 12 TD; 53 catches, 400 yards
Jacobs sure thrived in the Josh McDaniels offense. He was a first-team All-Pro and will likely be the top free agent on the market. It didn’t seem like the Raiders wanted to sign him last offseason. However, with this latest season, how can they afford not to? Jacobs could decide that he is insulted by not being extended by the Raiders and go to another team. Jacobs is one of the big prizes, not just among the running backs, in the free agency market.

#1: Saquon Barkley
295 carries, 1,312 yards, 10 TD; 57 catches, 338 yards
There is no question that Barkley is the best running back in the group. However, he comes with a little less intrigue than the others. He has already said that he is not looking for a record-setting contract. All reports also point to him wanting to stay with the Giants. New York would be foolish not to resign the face of their franchise. While some teams may try, I expect Barkley to be back in blue next season.
There are many other 2023 NFL free agents that could be on the move. The offseason is always interesting in the NFL and this year is no different.
