Throughout the day, each USFL team released their schedule for the 2023 season. Among the teams, the New Jersey Generals Schedule was released at 11 am Eastern. As announced, the Generals will be playing their home games at the Tom Benson Hall Of Fame Stadium in Canton Ohio. The Generals’ season will begin on April 15th. Here is a breakdown of the New Jersey Generals schedule.
New Jersey Generals Schedule Breakdown
Week 1: At Birmingham Stallions (4/15)
With the release of the New Jersey Generals schedule, it is shown that the Generals will open up their season against the Birmingham Stallions in Birmingham. Last year these two teams also played each other in week one. The Stallions got the best, winning the game 28-24. A year later, the Generals will look to start the season differently, this time with a win.
Week 2: At Pittsburgh Maulers (4/23)
In week two, the Generals will stay in the Canton hub as the away team against the Pittsburgh Maulers. In 2022 when these two teams first faced off, the Generals got the best of the Maulers, winning the game 29-18. Generals running back, Darius Victor rushed for three touchdowns in the game, according to USFL News Hub. The Generals will look to get their first win in Canton, despite being the away team.
Week 3: At Michigan Panthers (4/30)
In week three, the Generals will head to Detroit to face the Michigan Panthers. Just like last season, the Generals and Panthers will play each other twice. In 2022, the Generals faced the Panthers in week two, starting the team’s win streak. New Jersey won just 10-6 in a low-scoring game. Watch for Michigan to try to get revenge on the Generals for sweeping them in 2022.
Week 4: Vs New Orleans Breakers (5/7)
In week four of the USFL season, the New Jersey Generals will have their first home game in Canton Ohio. Their home opener will be against the New Orleans Breakers. Last season, the Generals beat the Breakers 27-17. As this is New Jersey’s first home game, they are going to strive for the win.
Week 5: At Philadelphia Stars (5/14)
Week five will be the first matchup of the season between the New Jersey Generals and the Philadelphia Stars. The game will be held in Detroit, the Stars’ hub. In 2022, the first matchup between these two teams went well for the Generals, where they won 24-16.
This game is one to mark on the New Jersey Generals schedule. Last season the Generals went 9-1, but they never made it to the Championship. The Generals lost to the Stars in playoffs, 19-14. Not only will the Generals want revenge, but it also seems as though there will be yet another sports rivalry between a New Jersey team and a Philadelphia team.
Week 6: At Houston Gamblers (5/21)
Week six will be yet another away game on the New Jersey Generals schedule. The team will head to Memphis Tennessee to face the Houston Gamblers. The last time these two teams faced each other, it was a close one. The Generals won by just one point, with a final score of 26-25. Seeing how close last season’s game was, expect this one to light a fire under both teams, especially with the Generals being the away team.
Week 7: Vs Michigan Panthers (5/28)
This is the first repeat game on the New Jersey Generals schedule. In week two the Panthers will head to Canton to face the Generals. Whenever teams face each other the second time, either the winner will want to sweep their opponent, or the loser wants revenge. The second game between these two last year was a close one, but the Generals got the best of Michigan winning 25-23.
Week 8: Vs Memphis Showboats (6/4)
There was not a Memphis Showboats team in the 2022 USFL. The Tampa Bay Bandits were repackaged into the Memphis Showboats with the new Hub being put in Memphis. There is a chance another Tampa Bay team will return in the future, but for now, the USFL welcomes the Showboats. Last season the Generals did beat the Tampa Bay Bandits, 20-13.
Week 9: Vs Philadelphia Starts (6/11)
The Generals and the Stars will not meet again until week nine. If these teams maintain their strengths from last season, this game could have playoff implications. Last year, the Generals swept the Stars in the regular season and will try to do the same in 2023. In the final regular season game of 2022, the Generals only beat the Stars 26-13.
Week 10: Vs Pittsburgh Maulers (6/17)
The final game on the New Jersey Generals schedule is at home against the Pittsburgh Maulers. In 2022, the Maulers went 1-9, but in year two that could change. When the two teams faced off for the second time in 2022, the Generals won 29-18. As it is the last regular season game, the Generals may need the win in order to move on to their second year in a row of the USFL playoffs.
New Jersey Generals Schedule Standouts
One of the most noticeable parts of the New Jersey Generals Schedule is that their first home game is in week four, and they do not have another until week seven. The team will then end the season with only home games, but that is a rough way to begin. Yes, with the hub their game against Pittsburgh will be in their home stadium, which is helpful, but they would still have to be the away team.
