2021 Recap
Super Bowl Champions. An incredible season put together by the Rams from start to finish. They finished the regular season with a 12-5 record and were one of the favorites going into the the postseason. The Rams made a splash last season by trading for Matthew Stafford. They also acquired Von Miller mid-season to add to their already star studded defense. Cooper Kupp had a sensational year leading the league in receptions, yards, and touchdowns. Aaron Donald was dominant as always. He secured his legacy as one of the greatest defensive players of all time. 2021 went as well as you could ask for as a Rams fan. Will the reigning champs be able to run it back in 2022?
Key Departures: Von Miller, Darious Williams, Austin Corbett, Robert Woods, OBJ?
Von Miller only played 12 games with the Rams but he made an impact. He had 2 sacks in the super bowl to help the Rams secure the super bowl. Miller left to join Bills mafia signing a mega 6yr/120mil deal. While Miller was only a rental, I do not think the Rams have any regrets. Darious Williams leaves for Jacksonville and was a nice compliment to Jalen Ramsey. Williams is a solid player but is replaceable. Seeing what other moves the Rams made it makes sense why they couldn’t resign him. Same with Corbett, a good run blocking guard but not a priority this offseason. Odell Beckham Jr. (OBJ) Is still a question mark as he remains unsigned. He revitalized his career singing with LA last year. Odell may still sign with the Rams as they have vocalized they would love to resign him but it remains to be seen what will happen. Robert Woods was shipped to Tennessee which made room for Allen Robinson to be signed as well.
Key Additions/Resigning’s: Cooper Kupp, Aaron Donald, Matthew Stafford, Bobby Wagner, Allen Robinson
Well, this has been a WILD offseason for the Rams. The super bowl champs wasted no time extending every key piece that was due for an extension. That includes Kupp, Donald, and Stafford. They also went out into the market and added two big names; Bobby Wagner and Allen Robinson. Kupp had a dream season that he capped off with a super bowl ring and MVP. Same with Donald as he had another dominant season. There were rumors of Donald potentially retiring though. Donald has secured his legacy as one of the all time greats. While it would be a shock at the level he still is currently playing at, it is understandable. Nonetheless, Donald shut down rumors by becoming the highest non-QB in NFL history by making 95 million dollars over the next 3 years. Insane. Stafford’s extension gets overlooked by those two but there was never any doubt of losing him. Bobby Wagner and Allen Robinson are both very intriguing signings to me. Wagner has been one of the best middle linebackers in football for the past couple years and he’s easily got a couple more years left in the tank. Allen Robinson hasn’t had a QB close to Stafford’s level his entire career. Yet he has still been able to post very good numbers throughout his career. I think this signing is the most slept on out of them as I am a big believer in the talent and I think Stafford will elevate his game as he did with Kupp.
Rams Schedule
Winning a Super Bowl and having as many stars as the Rams do, their schedule was bound to be difficult. They come in having the 2nd hardest strength of schedule according to sharpfootballanalysis.com. The first game of the season very well may be a look head to the 2022 super bowl as the Buffalo Bills come into town. After that it does not get much easier as they play the Buccaneers, Chiefs, Cowboys, Packers, Chargers, Broncos, and Raiders. That’s alongside being in one of the strongest divisions in the NFC West. While the Rams are very well equipped to go into any of these games and win, most weeks will be a battle.
My Picks and Analysis: Rams to win the NFC West +130
I think we are getting pretty good value on the board with this being plus money. The NFC West won’t be easy, but the Rams to me are the best team in this division. Vegas has their win total down about a game I would have projected. While I would lean the over, their schedule does scare me a bit. I think the Rams finish around 11-6 or 10-7. And while it is hard to repeat in the NFL, I was shocked to see them as the 5th super bowl favorite at +1100. I wouldn’t hate a small sprinkle on that. I think as long as this team makes the playoffs they will be a hard out for any team with the amount of star power they field. The most confident play though here for me is the Rams winning the NFC West especially at plus odds.
Prop to bet: Allen Robinson Over 825.5 Receiving Yards
I think Allen Robinson will have a bounce back this year. Robinson is coming off his worst season with 38 receptions, 410 rec yards, and 1 touchdown. The Bears offense was just pitiful all season and Robinson really never had a chance. This was coming off his best season with the Bears too so the huge downgrade statistically was a shock. Robinson is very talented despite last years showing. Robinson’s best QB throughout his career may be Blake Bortles who is not in the NFL anymore or Mitch Tribusky who was a backup for the Buffalo Bills last year. Now A-Rob signs with LA to play with Matt Stafford. Stafford threw for 4,886 yards last year which was 3rd in the NFL last year. Robert Woods departs and Odell Beckham most likely is not resigning. That’s 861 receiving yards that are leaving the building. While I think Cooper Kupp is great, a little regression is most likely coming. I believe in Robinson’s talent still and I think he can be an 1,000 yard receiver in this offense making this a very easy play on the over.
