The Oklahoma Sooners have struggled against the Tennessee Volunteers, and in particular quarterback Jackson Arnold has struggled.

Oklahoma quarterback Jackson Arnold (11) warms up during a college football game between the University of Oklahoma Sooners (OU) and the Tennessee Volunteers at Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, Okla., Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024.

Arnold has finished the first half of play with just seven completions and 54-yards passing while recording an interception. Arnold also had two lost fumbles, including one that led to a Volunteers safety in the second-quarter of play. The Oklahoma Sooners offense managed just three-points in the first-half of play.

Many other fans and analysts alike have come out of the woodwork to comment on the struggles of the Sooners and Arnold. Arnold, a former five-star quarterback, committed and signed with the Sooners after former starting quarterback Dillon Gabriel had transferred into the program. It is highly speculated that Gabriel transferred to the Oregon Ducks this past off-season in order for the Sooners to get their wish of starting Arnold.

Jackson Arnold is the worst 5-star quarterback since DJ Uiagalelei.

Jackson Arnold is so bad. He’s the only thing holding this team back.

Even Sooners mega-fan and well known analyst Skip Bayless took to social media to complain about the performance of Arnold. The quarterback had multiple crucial mistakes that killed drives for the Sooners.

Jackson Arnold, the national Gatorade Player of the Year in high school and the No. 1 dual-threat recruit, is turning into a major disappointment for my Sooners.

The quarterback has not had a good game for the Sooners and has largely been the reason why the offense has stalled. Sooners fans have already taken themselves to social media to call for the quarterback to hit the  bench in the midst of arguably his worst collegiate game.

While Arnold has had a terrible game, the Sooners defense on the other hand has looked impressive against a strong Tennessee offense.

Should the Oklahoma Sooner Staff Bench Jackson Arnold Moving Forward?

While Arnold might be in the midst of his worst collegiate performance, that does not mean it is time for the trigger to be pulled in terms of a benching.

Arnold is playing against one of the top defenses in the Volunteers and has had no help from his offensive line throughout the first-half of play. The quarterback also let down the Oklahoma Sooners offense when they did provide him an avenue for success, which further infuriated fans.

The Oklahoma Sooners and Arnold had been rather impressive up until this point, with Arnold recorded 484-yards and seven touchdowns. The quarterback looked poised and confident heading into the clash against the Volunteers, but proved to feel much different during the game.

The Oklahoma Sooners might have to consider making a quarterback change if Arnold truly continues to struggle.
