The Alabama Crimson Tide reportedly could consider benching quarterback Jalen Milroe, but it may come at quite the steep cost if it occurs.
Milroe, the star quarterback for the Crimson Tide who dominated last season, has the same amount of interceptions this season (6) as all of 2023. The quarterback has recorded 1722-yards and 13 touchdowns this season through the air with a quarterback rating of 80.7. On the ground, Milroe has recorded 330-yards and 11 touchdowns, showcasing his success as a dual-threat quarterback.

However, the Crimson Tide have already suffered two losses this season and both losses involved unfortunate Milroe interceptions. Many Alabama Crimson Tide fans are upset with the decision making Milroe has shown, along with his accuracy. Some fans have even gone as far as to suggest that Milroe hits the bench if the Crimson Tide face another loss this season.
Ty, but it won’t happen.
The locker room loves Milroe, he’s an easy guy to love.
Plus he was one of the four anchors that kept the team together when Saban adiosed.
KDB feels a loyalty to him as well.
We’re stuck with Milroe, hope he gets it figured out, FAST!

Ty Simpson
Let’s just move on

Some Alabama Crimson Tide fans recommended that Milroe continue to start, but under a very watchful eye. However, many fans have considered the benching conversations “nonsense” and consider Milroe the starter no matter what.
milroe on a very short leash, last 2 games have been horrendous

How is this a question lol

Don’t even try to start that narrative! We are good! We are not turning this young team over to inexperienced Ty. Love Ty but he’s not ready for the job that we HAVE TO DO right now. Teams already have no fear playing us. What do you think it looks like if Ty is standing there???

Alabama Crimson Tide Staff Not Ready to Give Up on Quarterback Jalen Milroe

The issue, however, is that benching Milroe would seemingly only cause more problems for the Crimson Tide moving forward. Milroe, the now second-year starter for Alabama, has been a vocal leader for the team in the locker room as well as a dominant presence on the field at times. Benching the veteran leader of the Crimson Tide could be a move that would cause coach Kalen DeBoer to lose control of the team.
Drew DeArmond says CKD should pull Milroe after another loss. Steve Moulton says he should be on an half game leash. Drew says CKD isn’t going to bench Milroe & isn’t even sure Ty Simpson is ready to take over at QB. https://t.co/GmApuuSibS

Another issue involves the potential job security of first-year Alabama Crimson Tide coach Kalen DeBoer. Teams thrive off morale and players love coaches who are both animated when coaching and also caring for the needs of the players.
Benching Milroe and losing the trust of the Crimson Tide team could cause the losing to increase, and potentially lead to DeBoer getting a swift boot out of Alabama.
The final clear issue would involve the back-up plan for the Alabama Crimson Tide, which would be sophomore Ty Simpson. The quarterback has limited experience and would face quite a gauntlet of opponents if he were to be elevated to the starting role.
There are many concerns that Simpson is not ready to play high-level collegiate football yet, which would force the staff to avoid a benching unless it became absolutely necessary.
