NFL players deal with injuries every year, as we have no shortage of star players who have already gone down in just 3 Weeks and one game of football. That makes the New Orleans Saints’ elite veteran Demario Davis that much more impressive.
It’s always incredible to see players build up a long streak of games without injury or missing time, but Davis has been the pinnacle of that for the Saints.
New Orleans Saints Veteran Breaks Incredible Streak
Sadly on Friday, the team announced that their All-Pro linebacker Davis would be out for this upcoming game against the Atlanta Falcons due to injury.
This will only be the second game of his entire 13-year career that Davis will be sidelined for a game. The first and only game he ever missed before this was back in 2021 and that was due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Besides, for that game, Davis has been truly the most reliable player in his position since entering the NFL.
Davis has had a storied career in the NFL so far, and per Tzvi Machlin of The Spun:
Davis was originally a third-round pick by the New York Jets in the 2012 NFL Draft. He mostly played on special teams as a rookie but played every game and was promoted to the first-team defense in 2013.
Davis played his first six seasons split between the Jets and Cleveland Browns before signing with the New Orleans Saints in 2019. Since then, Davis has been a rock and has seemingly gotten better with age.
Now, Davis will finally miss the first game of his career due to an injury:
Only game Demario has EVER missed was that crazy COVID game vs. Dolphins when #Saints had 18 players inactive. https://t.co/PoznjLKf8w

The 35-year-old veteran has been a five straight All-Pro and is coming off back-to-back Pro Bowl nods. He is the anchor of that elite defense and has been the standard for availability in the entire NFL. He is one of the most consistent players at the position in the history of the league and has had 11 straight seasons of 90 or more tackles! Seven of those straight have been over 100!
The Saints will dearly miss him, as they have never known to be without him in his entire tenure with the team. They also are looking for a huge win after their first loss of the season against their division rivals. Knowing Davis’ history the injury should not linger and he’ll be back the following week, but he will be missed on their defense trying to cover the Falcons’ array of offensive weapons.
