The LSU Tigers coaching staff recently ruled freshman wide receiver Kyle Parker out for the season after a tricep injury occurred.
The talented wide receiver was thrust into play after a slew of injuries occurred in the position room. Parker recorded three receptions for 55 yards and one touchdown this season, playing in four games for the LSU Tigers. Parker missed the action against Nicholls and now will miss the remainder of the season with an unfortunate injury.
Team leaders Chris Hilton Jr and CJ Daniels both have been limited this season with Aaron Anderson also going down. Parker now joins the list, with his injury appearing to be the most severe out of the ones that have been previously suffered in the position room.
Fellow wide receiver Chris Hilton Jr is another player who has been injured this season with a lower body injury, and has yet to play. A season ago, Hilton Jr recorded 13 receptions for 225 yards and two touchdowns for the LSU Tigers.
Hilton Jr was expected to play in the season opener against the USC Trojans before surprisingly being ruled out a day before the game. No timetable was set for the receiver, but then the injury appeared to be “more severe” that it was previously believed to have been.
Hilton Jr was then expected to return against South Alabama, but coach Brian Kelly revealed the injury had been “taking longer than expected” to heal. While the talented receiver is expected to still return this season, he may likely join Parker on the bench for the remainder of the year. The true severity of the injury still remains to be seen as the injury was originally just a day-to-day issue.
Should Chris Hilton Jr Return for the LSU Tigers this Season?
With seven games remaining this season, the clock is ticking on LSU Tigers receiver Chris Hilton Jr returning to play for the team.
The LSU Tigers have had plenty of injury issues in the receiving room in particular. However, it may be wise for Hilton Jr to take a redshirt depending on when he is cleared to return. If Hilton Jr does not return in the next three games, he would be eligible to finish the regular season while still holding onto a year of eligibility.
By rule, a player is allowed to participate in four games before being rule ineligible for a redshirt to maintain another season. If Hilton Jr is not able to return within the next few games for the LSU Tigers, the receiver could consider applying for a medical redshirt. In doing so, he would both receive an additional year of eligibility as well as securing a spot on the team when the receiving room has cleared out.
Receivers CJ Daniels and Karen Lacy are set to graduate this year with Zavion Thomas and Noah Nash set to graduate next season. Two years from now, the likely studs of the receiving room will be Kyle Parker, Kylan Billiot, and Shelton Sampson Jr.
