NFL Offensive Line of The Week (Week 9)
My NFL Offensive Line of The Week is the Baltimore Ravens. This is a group that has been incredible over the past few seasons, but definitely have been hampered by injury. Most notably, Pro-Bowl Left Tackle Ronnie Stanley. Stanley returned to action recently and they’ve taken their game to another level. When you add in the play of Rookie 1st Round Draft Pick, Tyler Linderbaum, the group is arguably one of the five best in football. Currently, the Ravens are on a 3 game win streak. They’ve been DOMINANT running the ball. This isn’t anything new, but it’s impressive nonetheless: They’ve been a top five rushing team in the National Football League 3 straight years in a row and are currently on a remarkable streak of EIGHT straight games with at least 150 rushing yards. At any level that is a tall task, but in the NFL it’s Herculean. Only THREE other teams have ever done it. All three went on to win the Super Bowl. I’m not here to make any grand declarations, but if history is any indication they’re well on their way to having a lot to be happy about in a couple months.
RUN GAME
In the run game, the Ravens from was superb as usual. The Ravens ran for 188 yards on 48 attempts for 2 touchdowns and a 4.7 yards per carry average. Kenyan Drake ran for 93 yards and 2 touchdowns. Lamar Jackson added 82 yards on a whopping 7.5 yards per carry average. The most impressive thing about it is how simple it is. Of course the using some variance in formation and motion, but for the most part it is simple power football. Double teams, down blocks, gap pullers, and man blocks. This is their bread and butter and they are more than excelling at it. Defenses all over the NFL have yet to stop it.
PASS PRO
In pass protection, it’s always a bit of a conundrum. Lamar Jackson’s ability to elude pressure is equally as consistent as his ability to keep plays alive for longer than they should which in turn could make it seem like the offensive line is giving up more pressure than they actually are. In this Instance, they did a more acceptable fine job. No pure drop back sacks allowed and minimal pressures. I do want to highlight Ronnie Stanley’s dominance since returning. In his last three games, he’s registered only TWO pressures. Absolutely unreal. The Ravens don’t have to throw the ball a lot, but when they do, they’re as well protected as anyone. Ronnie Stanley, Ben Powers, Tyler Linderbaum, Kevin Zietler & Morgan Moses take a bow.
